I know it’s cliché but I would like to remind everyone to please be safe trick-or-treating this Halloween.  If you need some tips, here are a couple of reminders, compliments of our friends at Reader’s Digest.

Tip number one:  Plan your route.  If you’re kids know exactly where you’re going, there’s much less of a chance they’ll get separated from you and lost.  If you plan to circle close to your home you’ll be close by if you have a wardrobe malfunction or a child’s meltdown.

Number two:  Wear comfortable shoes!  Duh… it’s easier on your feet and less of a trip hazard for your kids that wear more intricate outfits.

Number three:  Stay well lit.  If you’re wearing a dark outfit apply some reflective tape and take a flashlight so you can light up any dark spots.

Number four:  While long dresses are cute, they might cause problems walking.  Be sure to hem up long outfits so traveling is easier.

Number five:  Try to avoid masks.  Vision impairment can cause all kinds of problems… especially in the dark.  Use face paint if possible.

Number six:  Have a plan for accessories.  If your child is carrying a sword or other piece to their costume, make sure they have a place to carry it and that it’s plastic or rubber… so they don’t hurt themselves or others!

Number seven:  Go through the kid’s candy before they eat it.  While the urban legends of razors in candy still exist, it’s still smart to check it out.  Throw away any candy that’s not in it’s original wrapper.
