I love talking with Jayme Ironside from the Girl Scouts of Eastern Iowa and Western Illinois.  Not just because she drops in on me yearly with a bag of delicious girl scout cookies, but also because she is obviously so passionate about what she does.  Today she gave me details on their upcoming ‘Reach For Your Dream’ event that’s coming up.  If you missed it, read on…

The ‘Reach’ event is designed as an all-girl middle school event that gives the ladies a chance to try things that they’ve never tried and to ask questions they’ve always wanted answers to, while having fun doing it.

As I mentioned on the air today, you might expect a bunch of stereotypical classes for girls so I was shocked to find the opposite.

Classes include:  Robot Wars, Forensic Engineer, Black Belt Ninja and others.  There’s beauty, acting, cooking and animal classes, too.  The best part is, girls get to choose from four!

The event will be held on Saturday, October 25th from 9 to 4pm at the NICC downtown campus (in the Town Clock Plaza) at 700 Main Street.

Girls DON’T have to be a registered girl scout to attend, although there is a price difference.

For more information, stop by the Girl Scouts office at 2644 Pennsylvania Avenue in Dubuque (across from Flora Park) or call the offices for more details, at 563-583-9169.

(A nice write-up like this will surely land me an extra box of Thin Mints this year… I kid, I kid…)

Thanks again to Jayme and her awesome son Henry for stopping in to see me today!
