I remember being a kid and visiting Chicago.  Walking down the street I saw numerous homeless people laying on cardboard boxes along buildings with make-shift signs asking for help.

I remember asking my dad why they were begging for money.  Being stressed out from corralling his kids through the big city, I can understand now why he urged me to 'keep walking' instead of stopping to explain to me what it meant to be homeless.

Attending a parochial school and being raised as a Christian, I was taught to be compassionate to the less-fortunate, so it was troubling for me to walk by these people and not be able to lend a helping hand.

A while back I began hearing about a guy in Dubuque named Jeff Lenhart.

Somehow I became his Facebook friend and I started to follow the photos and adventures on his page.

Jeff has had numerous encounters with the homeless, even making a trip to Washington, D.C. for a homeless experience in which he was to spend two-weeks living on the streets.  (Unfortunately he fell ill and had to cut the trip short.)

Recently he traveled to Los Angeles to spend time with Leon Logothetis, founder of the Human Interaction Project and author of two books, including Amazing Adventures Of A Nobody and The Kindness Diaries.

From what Jeff tells me, Leon has inspired him to start the next journey in his life.

Jeff will be welcoming Leon to town for a few special events in May.  He's also selling copies of Leon's latest book, The Kindness Diaries and giving the money to the Dubuque Rescue Mission.  For every copy he sells, he and Leon will be doing one random-act-of-kindness in the community.

If you'd like a copy, you can call Jeff directly at 563-880-1042 or email him at lenhartjeff@gmail.com.

(If you'd like to 'friend' him to keep up with his adventures, HERE'S A LINK TO HIS FACEBOOK PAGE!)

Jeff Lenhart is an interesting guy in Dubuque that I thought you should meet.  I'm sure you'll be hearing his name a lot more in the future.
