One Million Americans Will Receive a $1,400 Check: Are You One of Them?
When you hear the words "stimulus check," your mind probably races back to 2020 and 2021, where the checks were thrown to Americans like lifelines amidst the deadly COVID-19 pandemic. Do you remember what you used your $1,200, $600, and $1,400 checks for? I distinctly remember putting the entirety of my $600 to brand new tires on my car.
Since the start of December, the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) has been cutting checks to at least one million Americans, according to multiple sources. It's part of a package worth up to $2.4 billion, and the rebates will continue into 2025.
The big question: do you qualify?
As soon as this news was revealed, Americans took to Google to figure out whether or not they'd qualify for another stimulus check, this one again worth $1,400. However, with about a million Americans set to receive this, that is only about 0.003% of the population.
Still, it's good to be aware. Apparently, checks are being sent to Americans who did not claim the Recovery Rebate Credit when filing their 2021 tax returns, per The U.S. Sun. The Recovery Rebate Credit was issued to those who did not claim stimulus payments during the pandemic.
Americans who didn't receive the credit when filing their 2021 tax return do not have to take any action.
Per the IRS, checks will be sent to the bank account listed on Americans 2023 tax returns. The payments will either be issued electronically or via paper checks, depending on a taxpayer's preference, which is usually confirmed via a tax account or by said individual filing their own taxes.
IRS Commissioner Danny Werfel used this as an opportunity to talk about the IRS' commitment to help taxpayers:
“The IRS continues to work hard to make improvements and help taxpayers. [....] These payments are an example of our commitment to go the extra mile for taxpayers. Looking at our internal data, we realized that one million taxpayers overlooked claiming this complex credit when they were actually eligible - IRS Commissioner Danny Werfel, per The U.S. Sun
Single taxpayers who didn't claim any dependents and made less than $80,000 in 2021 are entitled to receive the full amount, per The New York Times. The threshold for couples is $160,000. Americans who filed as the head of household but made less than $112,500 are entitled to receive the aforementioned payments as well.
It's also worth noting that the deadline to file tax returns for income received in 2024 is April 15th, 2025. Read more about another round of stimulus checks going out to Americans on The U.S. Sun's website.
