Dubuque Farmer’s Market Starts its 164th Summer Season this Saturday!

I always enjoy a good farmer's market and have been fortunate to visit serval across the country over many years. While some bigger cities may offer pricier gourmet options, few compare to Dubuque's Saturday morning hometown charm and the lively scene in front of City Hall.

The oldest in Iowa, Dubuque's Farmers Market, has been operating since 1858. It makes 2022 the 164th year at the Upper Main District City Hall location. I've been attending and enjoying it since the mid-70s - that's the 1970s.

The market covers three city blocks on Iowa Street and extends up and down 11th, 12th, and 13th street. If you've never been or it's been a while, you're encouraged to venture out and enjoy this longtime festive affair with area farmers, bakers, butchers, artisans, and purveyors of great food and crafts.

A popular Saturday morning destination for generations., the Dubuque Farmers Market features well over 100 rotating vendors representing the Tri-States. The vast offerings often include certified organic fruits and vegetables, grass-fed beef, pastured pork, free-range eggs, fresh baked goods, confections, cheeses, wine, honey, fresh flowers, plants, art, crafts, and more.

It's nice to acquaint yourself with vendors to learn how the food is grown and produced. Additionally, the personal connections will make visiting the Farmer's Market far more meaningful.

The Dubuque Farmers' Market operates on Saturdays beginning in May through the end of October for 27 weeks, Rain or Shine!
