October 20th marks the 74th Annual International Credit Union Day, and one Dubuque staple is celebrating it by dolling out a lot of money to its loyal members.

Dupaco Credit Union's VP of Community Outreach Erin Engler stopped by the studio today to discuss Dupaco's "Thank Use" program. Since its inception in 2016, members have shared nearly $24.4 million in "Thank Use." It's part of Dupaco's commitment to their members, and affords them some extra money in their pockets for bills, groceries, gas, or even charitable donations.

Engler, who has worked for Dupaco for a whopping 24 years, talked about what exactly International Credit Union Day is all about:

It's really just about raising awareness about the difference credits unions make in people's lives.

Engler also spoke about the "Thank Use" program as a way to commemorate members and their loyalty to Dupaco:

It's our way of rewarding our members, and [....] because we're a not-for-profit credit union, we find ways to give money back to our members, which is exactly how it should be. Our members earn "Thank Use" just by using their accounts every day: swiping their debit cards, saving money [....] and it pays out on International Credit Union Day every year.

This year, eligible members earned their share of nearly $3.7 million, which Engler says rounds out to about $50/member. That's terrific savings that couldn't be easier to obtain. Engler said that to commemorate International Credit Union Day on October 20th, you'd be wise to venture into your local branch:

Definitely make sure you venture into the branch as we got fun activities and things going on. Also, you can pop on our Facebook page or our website for that change to win [some] extra prizes. "Thank Use" is really about giving back to our members, and we're interested to hear what you're going to do with that extra cash.

Take a listen to my full interview with Erin Engler, and be sure to stop into a Dupaco branch on International Credit Union Day!
