East Dubuque Wingfest Cancelled, EDGE Foundation Dissolves

For East Dubuquers in recent years, the second Saturday of August has always meant Wingfest. This year, however, will not be the case.

In lieu of East Dubuque Greater Events (EDGE) Foundation dissolving in the spring, the annual Wingfest will not be held in 2026, per the Telegraph Herald. The East Dubuque Lions Club assumed some of the EDGE Foundation's functions following the organization ceasing operations.

The Plan for the Future of Wingfest:

Lions Club President Elvedin Zulic spoke with the Telegraph Herald and stated that upon the club assuming some of the operations of the EDGE Foundation, their goal was to take over "as many activities as possible." Zulic added that "the timing wasn't right" to bring Wingfest back in the summer. The goal is to bring it back in summer 2027.

It makes sense. With the Lions Club having their own activities, they only recently usurped what was originally responsibilities of the EDGE Foundation. Anybody who has worked with a company that's acquired a new business or a variety of new responsibilities knows there's a significant period of transition attached to this. Not to mention, organizing something like Wingfest is a major job, and the Lions Club only just took over EDGE Foundation's functions merely a couple months ago.

Zulic added that the Lions Club is focused on community aid, so in the realm of the EDGE Foundation's duties, it will continue to prioritize philanthropy in the area. He also expressed doubt that the annual East Dubuque fireworks show, which occurs in late June. That also wasn't held this year.
