When the COVID-19 pandemic hit, millions of people lost their job. After almost two years since the pandemic hit, employers across America, including right here in the Quad Cities, are struggling to find workers. Employers in both Illinois and Iowa are trying to entice people to come work for them with tactics like sign-on bonuses, better vacation, better pay, and other incentives.

We've all heard the numerous recruitment ads on the radio for employers in both Iowa and Illinois. That's why this new study that says Illinois employers struggle the least to hire people is very surprising.

The list of 2022's States Where Employers Are Struggling the Most and Least in Hiring has come out from our friends at WalletHub. Employers in every state are struggling to find workers, but some states struggle less than others. We know businesses in the Quad Cities, both on the Iowa and Illinois side, are trying their hardest to find employees. So when this list came out and we saw that Illinois is in the top 10 states with employers struggling the least to hire, we did a double-take.

To find out which states have employers struggling the most, or least, to hire people, WalletHub compared the 50 states and the District of Columbia on two metrics:

  • Job Openings Rate (Latest Month)
  • Job Openings Rate (Last 12 Months)

WalletHub then used these metrics to rank the states and D.C. in order from those that struggle the most with hiring to those that struggle the least.

After doing all of that math, WalletHub found that Illinois is a state with employers struggling the least to hire. Iowa isn't too far behind.
