'Signature drinks' may make you think of a specialty cocktail but that's not the case for every state. But it sure is for Iowa and Illinois.

According to the website Stacker, Iowa's signature drink is a frozen blue water margarita. Stacker says:

According to Taste of Home, the cocktail is made like the classic margarita with tequila, Cointreau, and lime. The brilliant blue comes from Blue Curacao.

I do love a good marg. Illinois, meanwhile, is keeping it basic and very Irish, with Jameson Irish Whiskey. Stacker says:

With its Irish population and the yearly tradition of dyeing the Chicago River green on St. Patrick's Day, Illinois is all about Ireland. So when it comes to choosing a signature drink, it has to be Jameson Irish Whiskey, which is the state's most popular spirit.

If you're trying to figure out how this was decided, Stacker looked at several factors to determine states' signature drinks. That includes the states' official websites, news, culinary profiles, and anything from the state's history that ties it to a specific beverage. Like Missouri's is of course Budweiser since it's made in St. Louis. It's also determined by what tourists want to try combined with what locals seek out too. Here's Stacker's full list of all 50 states' signature drinks.

Indiana's 'signature drink', by the way, is water.
