ORIGINAL STORY: 1/14/25

A cool new experience for kids is coming soon to Coral Ridge Mall in Coralville! The Slime Kitchen is getting ready to open its first Iowa location right here in the Corridor!

Under the "Store Opening" tab on Coral Ridge's directory, there's currently a list of eight businesses that have either opened recently or are "coming soon." There is only one listed as "coming soon," and that's a place called the Slime Kitchen. The business' official website reads:

"Create your own customized slime in our interactive slime kitchens. Unleash your creativity with vibrant colors, tons of textures, whimsical scents, and more!"

If you're wondering how the Slime Kitchen works, here's a breakdown of all ten steps of the experience:

  1. Pick out a base: options include clear, classic, thick & glossy, cloud, butter, and icee
  2. Pick a scent - there are more than 30 to choose from!
  3. Pick a color
  4. Mix it!
  5. Add glitter
  6. Add texture (slimy, creamy, fluffy, snowy)
  7. "Poke, Pop, Drizzle!"
  8. Add mix-ins (polymer clay slices)
  9. Top it off with "flowers, sprinkles, dinosaurs, rainbows, and more"
  10. Seal it up to take home

If you plan to visit the Slime Kitchen when it opens, you can just walk in to the store, but they do recommend making a reservation if it's a holiday or a weekend. It typically takes an average of 20 to 30 minutes for the entire process, and it costs between $25 and $30 at other locations. The experience is geared towards ages 4 and up, but parents are welcome to help their kids if they're younger than that. You can even host a birthday party there!

There are currently Slime Kitchen locations in California, Oregon, and Nevada, but the one at Coral Ridge will be the first in the Midwest. The Slime Kitchen hasn't posted an official opening date yet, but a recent post on Instagram from the franchise says that they are planning to begin welcoming customers in about three weeks.
