Two Dubuque Students Win Full-Tuition Scholarships to UD
Man, I only wish I could have scored a scholarship like these two Dubuque kids! I mean, I had scholarships, but having your entire tuition covered is a huge accomplishment! That's why I think it's time to honor Maxwell Stoll and Sophia Thier. These Dubuque seniors have just been awarded the University of Dubuque’s prestigious Second Century Scholars full-tuition scholarships, and it’s a moment worth celebrating.

Now, these scholarships aren’t handed out lightly. Maxwell, is from Dubuque Senior High School, and Sophia, is from Wahlert Catholic High School. They were both selected from a group of around 50 top-notch high school seniors who participated in UD’s annual Second Century Scholars Day. Students with GPAs of 3.75 or higher were invited to take part in a full day of interviews, writing exercises, and information sessions to showcase their curiosity, self-discipline, and passion for learning and community service. Here's the deal: Maxwell and Sophia didn’t just show up, they stood out.
According to a recent press release from the college, the Second Century Scholars program is supported by generous donors, and awards two renewable full-tuition scholarships each year. It also offers several one-time Distinguished Scholar awards. These scholarships recognize students who not only excel academically but also demonstrate a commitment to making a positive impact in their communities.
Beyond the numbers and criteria, this honor reflects years of hard work, dedication, and personal development. It’s a moment for Maxwell, Sophia, and their families to feel proud of everything they’ve accomplished. It's also a reminder to all of us in Dubuque that talent and determination truly shine when paired with opportunity. Not to mention the fact that those opportunities are closer to home than you may think!
Congratulations to Maxwell Stoll and Sophia Thier! Dubuque is proud to have young adults, making such impressive strides. Here’s to the bright futures ahead of you both. You’ve earned every bit of this recognition, and then some!
