Wisconsin Part of a Nearly 650,000 Pound Tater Tot Recall
According to a recall report from the FDA, Wisconsin is among 28 states affected by a massive recall of frozen tater tot products after small pieces of hard plastic were found in some lots. The recall was initiated by McCain Foods USA Inc. on February 10th, 2026, and spans more than 21,600 30-pound cases. That equates to roughly 648,000 pounds of possibly tainted tater tots specifically distributed to food service clients.
The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) classified the recall as Class II, meaning consumption may result in temporary or medically reversible health effects, and the chance of serious harm is considered remote. Still, the idea of finding plastic in your tots has my teeth hurting.
McCain’s recall covers two products: Ore-Ida Tater Tots shaped potatoes and Sonic Tots, both packaged in 30-pound bulk cases for restaurants, schools, and other food service operations. The Ore-Ida Tots involved expanded batch codes and use-by dates of 21,557 30 -pound cases; the Sonic Tots included a single batch and production code tied to an October 2025 run at McCain’s Burley, Idaho, facility of just 67 cases. Wisconsin diners and institutions that received the affected products are to stop using the tots immediately and check their additional inventory for matching batch codes and use-by dates. Officials stress that no illnesses or injuries have yet been linked to this recall.
