You may think it's a scam until it's not.

Imagine getting a call from someone who identifies himself as 'Robert Prevost', the actual name of the first American pope: Chicagoland-born Pope Leo XIV. Rightttt. Especially in the age of AI voices, get real.

But it did actually get quite real.

In a gathering this last week in Naperville, Rev. Tom McCarthy shared a story (confirmed true) about his friend, Pope Leo, when the pope called his hometown bank to update his information.

He identified himself on the phone as 'Robert Prevost', saying he needed to change his phone number and address, and after going through a series of security questions from the representative, the rep told him he needed to visit one of their branches in person.

Which is a very 'bank' move.

Apparently, the pope then said "Well, I'm not going to be able to do that." and "I gave you all the security questions"...then fired off with "Would it matter if I told you I'm Pope Leo?"

The representative hung up.

The issue was sorted out when another priest contacted the bank's president and the info got updated. Popes: dealing with everyday frustrations like the rest of us.

But really, if you were in the rep's position, would you have believed him? At what point in the security questions would you ask yourself if this guy is the real Pope Leo?

Pray for the lady who hung up on the pope's attempt to update his bank information.
