I can't tell you how many times I've been approached either in-person or via email/Facebook to recognize artists or groups that do not get exposure on our airwaves. To an extent, I think this is an aspect of radio that has been phased out; introducing listeners to new artists/groups/bands. Sure, you'll hear new artists - but  it seems like everything has to be "tested" or pre-determined. A lot of that has to do with the internet and how readily available music is these days - hell, some of the music gets leaked before the artists want it to! This blog feature will not necessarily introduce new artists/bands every week and may very well highlight a core artist/band on Y105. It will take a closer look at who is making the music...

I've started re-watching Breaking Bad and a song in season 4, episode 2 that caught my attention. It's played in the last scene of the episode. I used the phone app Shazam to ID the group...Nada. So I took to Google and found it was a hip hop band called Honey Claws (the song was "Digital Animal").

Honey Claws was formed in Austin, Texas in 2008 and has released two albums and two EP's. Their most recent album was released in July of 2012 and is titled Money Jaws. Although the group was formed in Austin, Texas, a few of their members now live in New Zealand. You don't need to look at a globe to figure out that New Zealand is a LONG way from Texas. Without asking the band, I'd have to assume a lot of their music is pieced together via exchanging work parts over the internet/cloud - a far cry from the days of Pink Floyd and others who would spend days together in the studio. I chose the video they recorded live at the Red Bull studios because it illustrates just how talented these guys are (specifically the vocalist Jon Von Letscher).

NOTE: There are a few "S-bombs" in the song and is NSFW
