August’s Kwik Care Recipient Helps Alleviate the Financial Burden of Cancer
When it comes to supporting local non-profits, there might not be an easier and more impactful program than Kwik Care.
If you're not aware, Kwik Care has helped raise both funds and awareness for local nonprofits. Each month, Kwik Stop and Dairy Queen help collect donations for a different organization. Donations can be made easily by requesting your total purchase at any of those businesses (including at the gas pumps at Kwik Stop) be rounded up to the nearest dollar. The additional cents used to round up will be donated to the respective charity of the month.
This month's Kwik Care recipient is The Avery Foundation, an organization that helps cancer patients financially by alleviating stress brought on by unexpected medical expenses. Beyond the obvious physical toll cancer takes on the human body, the financial implications can be devastating. Cancer patients are two and a half times more likely to file for bankruptcy after their diagnosis.
Ron Avery of The Avery Foundation stopped by to chat about his wonderful organization. One of the many things about The Avery Foundation that makes them such a fabulous nonprofit is that 95 cents of every dollar is put towards helping a cancer patients' needs, be it to treatment or assistance with paying their bills while they undergoing said treatment.
Avery has seen family members be diagnosed and eventually succumb to cancer. Seeing his sister, Julie, suffer and his family endure the lofty medical bills all the way back in the 1980s gave him the motivation to start an organization that would help people take back some control of their lives. That's why he started The Avery Foundation.
