April’s Kwik Care Recipient Supports Survivors of Sexual Assault, Domestic Violence
When it comes to supporting local non-profits, there might not be an easier and more impactful program than Kwik Care.
If you're not aware, Kwik Care has helped raise both funds and awareness for local nonprofits. Each month, Kwik Stop and Dairy Queen help collect donations for a different organization. Donations can be made easily by requesting your total purchase at any of those businesses (including at the gas pumps at Kwik Stop) be rounded up to the nearest dollar. The additional cents used to round up will be donated to the respective charity of the month.
April's Kwik Care recipient is Riverview Center. Riverview Center works with victims of sexual assault and domestic violence. They know better than anyone that there's no template you can hamfist on one person's experiences. Recovery looks and feels different for each individual. Sexual assault advocacy, in itself, has many dimensions.
Riverview Center prides themselves in assisting survivors by ways of "self-determination and autonomy, feeling heard and validated, and social support," per their introductory pamphlet.
Heather Hamm of Kwik Stop/Rainbo Oil and Heidi Zull of Riverview Center stopped by the studio to talk all about what services Riverview Center provides, as well as what the donations will bring to their facilities:
The money goes to support survivors of sexual assaults and domestic violence, so that can mean a lot of different things. We provide crisis response, so 24/7/365 days a year, we have crisis call services [....] we also have legal advocacy, general advocacy, and medical advocacy, so supporting people through those systems, as well as therapy and counseling for ongoing support. - Heidi Zull
Heidi also touched on Riverview Center's upcoming Evening of Light, which welcomes keynote speaker Chanel Miller, who was involved in the highly publicized Brock Turner Stanford University sexual assault case in 2015.
