Following a successful first year, the Birth Collective of Dubuque is bringing back its expo which provides new and expecting moms with local avenues for support when it comes to pregnancy, birth, postpartum, and more.

The event is called "The Making of a Mama," and it's set to take place at the Dubuque Arboretum and Botanical Gardens on Saturday, August 5th from 9am to 12pm. The three-hour expo boasts the opportunity for families "to learn about local support available for pregnancy, birth, and postpartum," per a press release for the event.

Both Lacy Knipper and Becky Franzen of the Birth Collective stopped by the studio to talk about the upcoming event. Becky spoke about how the first "Making of a Mama" expo was such a success that they kept the spirit pretty much the same, with the only significant change being the venue:

It is an opportunity for moms and families to come together and learn about resources for pregnancy, and birth, and postpartum in the Dubuque area, and the providers who are there to support them.

This exciting event will showcase the providers and offerings of the Birth Collective of Dubuque, a group of women dedicated to empowering women to make informed decisions throughout pregnancy, birth, and postpartum.  Event attendees can connect with area resources, from midwives and doulas to lactation consultants and physical therapists, as well as others who support a strong and healthy pregnancy and postpartum journey.

In addition to an on-site lactation space, there will be plenty of shopping opportunities with area boutiques. The 2023 iteration of "Making of a Mama" will also feature panel discussions, opportunities to ask questions of providers, door prizes, and a “latch-on” event for breastfeeding and pumping mamas and babies.

We believe that women deserve to be supported with evidence-based information so they can have the pregnancy, birth, and postpartum they desire. - a representative from the Birth Collective.

The expo is for anyone who is contemplating becoming pregnant, is currently pregnant, or is in the postpartum period, and their families.

The best part? "Making of a Mama" is completely free to attend! Early registration on the Birth Collective's website is an option, and will earn you an extra entry into the raffle for the aforementioned door prizes, but is not a requirement to attend.

"Making of a Mama" is happening Saturday, August 5th from 9am-12pm at the Dubuque Arboretum and Botanical Gardens. Take a listen to my interview with Becky and Lacy to learn more about the upcoming expo!
