Maroon 5’s hit single “Girls Like You,” which features New York rap sensation Cardi B, has been dominating the airwaves and the Billboard charts.

With the band set to perform at the Super Bowl on Sunday -- albeit without the “Money” rapper -- it’s likely the song will be performed. That said, viewers are going to want to familiarize themselves with the track before it comes blaring through the TV.

The pop song is about a man pining after a girl. The fictional pair are spending time together, but it’s never enough. “Girls Like You” opens, “Spent 24 hours. I need more hours with you. You spent the weekend. Getting even, ooh ooh.” It appears there’s some disconnect between the two.

“We spent the late nights. Making things right, between us. But now it’s all good baby. Roll that Backwood baby. And play me close,” the song continues. “‘Cause girls like you. Run around with guys like me. ‘Til sundown, when I come through. I need a girl like you, yeah yeah.”

Frontman Adam Levine croons, “Girls like you. Love fun, yeah me too. What I want when I come through. I need a girl like you, yeah yeah.”

“I spent last night. On the last flight to you. Took a whole day up. Trying to get way up, ooh ooh. We spent the daylight. Trying to make things right between us. And now it’s all good baby. Roll that Backwood baby. And play me close. ‘Cause girls like you. Run around with guys like me. ‘Til sundown, when I come through. I need a girl like you, yeah yeah,” the song goes. “Girls like you. Love fun, yeah me too. What I want when I come through. I need a girl like you, yeah yeah.”

For a portion of the song, Levine speak-sings a chorus about a particularly rough patch between the subjects. In it, he suggests the object of the man’s affections may have had enough of him.

“Maybe it’s 6:45. Maybe I’m barely alive. Maybe you’ve taken my s--- for the last time, yeah. Maybe you know that I’m drunk. Maybe I know you’re the one. Maybe I’m thinking it’s better if you drive,” he says, before getting back to the full-on singing.

He repeats twice, “‘Cause girls like you. Run around with guys like me. ‘Til sundown, when I come through. I need a girl like you, yeah yeah. Girls like you. Love fun, yeah me too. What I want when I come through. I need a girl like you, yeah yeah.”

In the version of the song with Cardi B on it, she raps -- at least partially -- about her own experiences. She sings about having been a stripper and, it seems, her experience with husband Offset cheating on her.

“Not too long ago, I was dancing for dollars. No, it’s really rude if I let you meet my mama. You don’t want a girl like me I’m too crazy. For every other girl you meet it’s fugazy. I’m sure them other girl were nice enough. But you need someone to spice it up,” she raps. “Who you gonna call? Cardi, Cardi. Come and rev it up like a Harley, Harley. Why is the best fruit always forbidden? I’m coming to you now doin’ 20 over the limit. The red light, red light stop, stop.”

Cardi continues, “I don’t really play when it come to my heart. I don’t really want a white horse and carriage. I’m thinkin’ more white Porsches and karats. I need you right here ‘cause every time you call. I play with this kitty like you play with your guitar.”

These particular verses, however, are likely to be left out of Sunday’s performance, however. Cardi is boycotting the NFL, but performed at a pre-game show in Atlanta, according to a report from Variety.
