With protests continuing throughout the NFL and now expanding to other professional sports, the national anthem has been in the center of controversy. Now, a number of hip-hop stars have weighed in on the issue and gave their recommendations for replacement songs.

During the 2017 BET Hip Hop Awards, Complex caught up with a few rappers and asked them what song they believe should replace "The Star-Spangled Banner." According to New York native Dave East, his choice would be a classic Diplomats song.

"Probably the 'Dipset Anthem,'" East said. "Harlem, man. Juelz had all the patriotic flag and all that on anyway. 'Dipset Anthem' should be the new anthem, man."

Dipset member Jim Jones also gave his recommendation, nominating a Tupac Shakur song. "I'd put a Tupac song to tell you the truth," the rapper said. As for Plies, he would go with a "deep Marvin Gaye record," while Migos want to hear their own hit, "Bad and Boujee," as the national anthem.

Although the BET Hip Hop Awards already took place on Oct. 6, the event will air on Oct. 10 at 8 p.m.. Performers for the night include Cardi B, Yo Gotti, Migos and Playboi Carti. The awards are hosted by DJ Khaled.
