NF’s ‘The Search’ Album Beats Chance The Rapper’s ‘The Big Day’ for No. 1 on Billboard 200
The release of this week's Billboard charts turned out to be a big day for NF who scored the No. 1 album in the country with his latest release The Search and held off Chance The Rapper's debut album The Big Day, which landed in the No. 2 spot.
NF's new project had an impressive first week showing, moving 130,000 equivalent album units. Even more impressive, 84,000 were in album sales, which marks the biggest sales week for a rap project in 2019. This is the Michigan rhymer's second No. 1 album. His Perception project in 2017 also debuted at No. 1 on the album chart.
He celebrated the news with a post on Twitter thanking his fans. "I want to thank every single fan who supported me by buying this album," he wrote. "I put my life into this and to see this much support means a lot tome. Thank you to my management team for working so hard to make things happen, thank you to my producers / friends who spent countless hrs in the studio with me, and thank you to my label for letting me do whatever I want creatively since day one. The fans made this album #1, and I am forever grateful."
Chance's The Big Day was able to push 108,000 equivalent album units, with an album sales figure of 27,000, marking the Chicago rapper's highest-charting project to date. The new album features guest appearances from Nicki Minaj, DaBaby, Megan Thee Stallion, Gucci Mane, Lil Durk, Ari Lennox and more. Chance will be heading out on tour in support of the album beginning in September.
Other hip-hop artists in the top 10 of the Billboard 200 include Chris Brown (Indigo) No. 5, Lil Nas X (7) No. 6, Lizzo (Cuz I Love You) No. 7, Young Dolph and Key Glock (Dum and Dummer) No. 8 and Dreamville (Revenge of the Dreamers III) No. 10.
