A scary situation unfolded in a small eastern Iowa town on Saturday when an ultralight aircraft crashed into a home.

The Clayton County Sheriff's Office confirmed on Saturday, shortly before 6pm, they received multiple 911 calls reporting an aircraft had crashed into a large home on Abel Island, located in rural Guttenberg. The multicolored plane was an ultralight aircraft that appeared to have nosedived onto the roof of a home.

Per WHO 13 in Des Moines, officials confirmed that the aircraft attempted to take off from the nearby Abel Island Airport when the pilot, 75-year-old Gary Fisher of Monticello, lost control, struck power lines, and crashed into the roof the home.

Fisher sustained minor injuries in the crash. He was the sole occupant of the aircraft, and nobody in the home was injured. You can see a visual of the crash on KCRG's website.

The crash is currently under investigation by the the Clayton County Sheriff’s Office, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB). It's a frightening scene to see a plane of any size collide with a home. I can't imagine the jolt of the homeowners when the accident took place.

As of this writing, there is no update on the pilot's condition or the state of the home at this time. For more details on the ultralight aircraft crash in rural Guttenberg, visit WHO 13's website.
