A Catholic priest with local ties has died after contracting COVID-19.  Rev. Philip Mensah died in Baltimore last month after catching the virus.  Rev. Mensah was part of the Dubuque diocese from 2017-2019, and was originally from the African country of Ghana.  When Ghana closed their borders due to the pandemic, he stayed with family in Maryland, where he passed away.  The Telegraph Herald reports that while in Dubuque, Rev. Mensah lived at St. Columbkille, was chaplain at Stonehill Franciscan Services and served mass at county parishes, including St. Joseph Key West, St. Catherine and St. Donatus.

My mother-in-law is a member of St. Catherine's, and told me her impression was that Father Mensah was well-liked by the congregation and was sad when he left the diocese.

Rev. Mensah was 58.
