Semi Carrying 53,000 Pounds of Peanut Butter Rolls Over on Illinois Interstate
It seems a couple times every year, a situation occurs on the highways of America that is fit for a second grade game of Mad Libs. A truck carrying "x" crashes and spills "x" onto the roadway. The situation is funny, if you're not directly involved.
Such a situation happened on an I-57 off-ramp in Illinois yesterday. A semi truck hauling tens of thousands of pounds of peanut butter rolled over on the interstate near the Tri-State Tollway.
Around 7am on Monday, December 16th, a semi truck packed to the gills with 53,000 lbs of peanut butter rolled over on the I-57 off-ramp to northbound I-294, according to officials. The crash resulted in the respective exit ramp being completely shut down. While the cause of the crash is under investigation, no injuries were reported.
It's easy to laugh at a story like this. In some ways, it's hard not to. However, my mind always goes to the driver in these situations. Thankfully, by all accounts, he seems to be doing all right. But the embarrassment has to rival whatever pain he's felt in the hours and now days after the accident.
Some photos of the accident on Twitter show the rolled over semi and the truckload of peanut butter astray in the trailer. It doesn't appear that much, if any, spilled onto the already slick roadways of I-57. The peanut butter was also apparently offloaded to another trailer.
Little else in the way of information was provided on the crash, per multiple sources. However, that didn't stop social media from having something of a field day with the news.
All I ask is that in between the laughs and chuckles we can get out of this story, just consider the person behind the wheel and how they might be feeling after such an event.
