‘The Greatest Band in The World’ Is Coming to Cedar Rapids

Only one group in the history of rock and roll has the audacity to call themselves 'The Greatest Band in the World'. Not Led Zeppelin. Not AC/DC. Not Metallica. It's Kyle and JB...Tenacious D! And they're bringing their crazed version of anthemic rock to Cedar Rapids this September!

If you know the music of the 'D', then you already know what you're in for. For the uneducated, Tenacious D is made up of actor Jack Black and fellow actor and musician Kyle Glass. The two met in Los Angeles and began writing and performing music in Kyle's apartment. Eventually, their odd musical stylings got the attention of HBO, which gave the duo their own variety show in 1999.

The show, well, it was strange. But what it did feature were some truly amazing original songs by Kyle and JB. Flash forward to 2001, when the duo put out their self-titled CD. It was quickly certified gold. I should know...I had a copy. The album featured many of their songs from their HBO show, but also featured several new original pieces, including the amazingly melodic 'Wonderboy'!

The album also features my go-to karaoke song, 'F*#k Her Gently'. Talk about a classic piece of music. Jack and Kyle even got to make a feature full-length movie called 'Tenacious D in the Pick of Destiny'. Tenacious D is great because they don't take themselves too seriously, even when they're trying to convince you they're the best rock band of all time.
