ABC News reports that a lightning strike killed two elderly persons from Janesville, Wisconsin near the White House on Thursday.

Authorities have identified those killed as 76-year-old James Mueller and 75-year-old Donna Mueller, both from Janesville, Wisconsin,  The two died after being injured in the strike in Lafayette Park in front of the White House.  Two other adult persons, a man and a woman also in the park at the time of the strike, remain in critical condition at a nearby hospital.

Officials say Secret Service agents and U.S. Park Police officers witnessed the strike just before 7 pm Thursday night and provided aid to those injured.
