A Potosi, WI man is dead after a UTV crash in the town of Darlington, which is located in Lafayette County.

A release from the Lafayette County Sheriff's Office confirmed on Sunday, December 21st, 2025, at 6:30am, the office received a 911 call reporting a UTV crash with injuries in the 13000 block of Wildcat Road in Darlington. Multiple departments quickly responded to the scene.

Lafayette County Sheriff’s Deputies, Darlington Fire, and Lafayette County EMS were dispatched to the crash scene, as was the Wisconsin DNR. The investigation found that a man driving a 2025 Can Am UTV was traveling eastbound on Wildcat Road when the driver of the UTV failed to negotiate a curve, left the roadway, and struck a tree.

The driver and lone occupant of the UTV, 55-year-old Mark A. Nelson of Potosi, WI, was partially ejected from the UTV and declared dead at the scene by the Lafayette County Coroner's Office. Per the Lafayette County Sheriff's Office release, Nelson was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.
