Will Smith Goes on a Hilariously Awkward Date With Sophia the Robot

Will Smith has had bad experiences with robots in the past, but the actor isn't giving up on the machines just yet. In a new video posted on March 29, Smith tried his hand at online dating and got set up with Sophia the Robot.

Sharing some time together in the Cayman Islands, things quickly got awkward between the two as Sophia rejected Smith's drink offer. Sophia also wasn't too fond of Smith's joke about a robot's favorite kind of music being heavy metal.

After a slight pause, Sophia told the actor, "I'm actually made mostly of silicone, plastics and carbon fiber. Also, I prefer electronic music. But I don't mind '80s hip-hop."

Seeing a connection between the two, Smith informed Sophia that he actually created a few rap albums in the 1980s but the robot curved him again. "I have heard your albums—not for me," the robot said.

Half way through their date, things got really awkward when Smith read his signals wrong and leaned in for a kiss that wasn't reciprocated. "I think we can be friends. Let's hang out and get to know each other for a little while," Sophia said.

Since joining YouTube in December, Smith has quickly become a popular vlogger on the website, with many of his videos surpassing 1 million views. The hip-hop veteran has also gained a following on Instagram, thanks in part to hilarious videos like his recreation of Jaden Smith's "Icon" video and getting salsa lessons from singer Marc Anthony.
