April 28th, 2012 was a rainy, unseasonably cold Saturday. I woke up and went straight to Doland Jewelers on JFK Road to pick up the most expensive piece of jewelry I will ever buy. On the way home, I decided to stop by Panera and grab some bagels for breakfast.

My intention was to have a casual Saturday with my girlfriend (at the time) and take her out to eat at Champagne inside Mystique Casino that evening. While at dinner, I was going to pop the question and ask her to marry me.

That was the plan.

After I got back to our apartment, my lack of patience started to take over and I grew incredibly anxious. I couldn't wait 9 hours! I called an "audible" and brought the ring into the bedroom, got down on one knee and woke her up to propose.

Was it the most creative and romantic proposal? Certainly not. It was us though; it was doing what felt right, it was spontaneous, it was comfortable, it was a moment that only we shared.

I can admit my many faults and, in doing so, I can appreciate a woman who loves me in spite of them all.

June 8th is our anniversary, but April 28th is the day I made the best decision of my life.
