One of the most electric yet controversial players in the WNBA, who has been called Caitlin Clark's rival, is making history by being the first female athlete to get her very own meal from a fast food restaurant.

Celebrity meals have become extremely popular at McDonald's in particular, with everyone from Travi$ Scott to Saweetie getting their own meals at one point or another. That said, celebrity tie-in meals have been gaining steam with other chains too. For one, Wisconsin native and former NFL defensive end J. J. Watt became the first celebrity to have his own meal at Culver's.

Come February, McDonald's will be selling "The Angel Reese Special," named after former LSU women's basketball star/current Chicago Sky power forward Angel Reese. The decorated athlete had a solid rookie season in Chicago despite her season ending prematurely due to a wrist injury. Presently, Reese is playing in the new women's basketball league known as Unrivaled.

So, what exactly is "The Angel Reese Special?" Judging from McDonald's press release, it's sure to please anyone who has a hankering for barbecue. Reese's new meal is comprised of:

  • A BBQ Bacon Quarter Pounder with Cheese
  • Bold BBQ Sauce
  • French Fries
  • Your choice of drink

Reese noted that McDonald's has always been a big part of her life, whether it was a trip to the restaurant as a child or being named a McDonald's All-American in 2020:

McDonald’s has always been a big part of my life, from grabbing a McChicken Sandwich as a kid to being named a McDonald’s All American in 2020. It’s really a dream come true to be the first-ever female athlete to have my own meal and be a part of McDonald’s amazing basketball legacy. I hope the Angel Reese Special inspires young athletes everywhere to never give up on pursuing their dreams. - Angel Reese, per McDonald's press release

The meal is heavily inspired by Angel's unapologetically original style and swag. McDonald's press release notes that "the smoky bold BBQ sauce is a gamechanger" that enhances the flavor of the Quarter Pounder with Cheese. It's similar at least in part to Travi$ Scott's McDonald's meal, which was underscored by BBQ dipping sauce for the French fries.

McDonald's Vice President of Marketing, Brand, Content & Culture Jennifer "JJ" Healan noted that there's a real connection between McDonald's and basketball culture, which was part of the impetus behind this collaboration:

There’s a real connection between McDonald’s and basketball fans. We want to continue to fuel their love for the game and support athletes on and off the court.  We’re excited to bring our legacy with basketball culture to a new generation, and partnering with Angel is only the beginning - McDonald's Vice President of Marketing, Brand, Content & Culture Jennifer "JJ" Healan, per McDonald's press release

The Angel Reese Special drops at McDonald's on February 10th and will be available for a limited time at participating restaurants. For more information on the meal, visit McDonald's website.
