Amazon's footprint is expanding in the Hawkeye State, with a second facility coming to this metropolitan.

As of this writing, Amazon has at least 11 operational facilities in the state of Iowa. These include both fulfillment centers and delivery stations, which exist in places like Bondurant, Ankeny, and Grimes. That doesn't even count the Amazon return centers, which exist inside department stores like Kohl's.

Coming soon, Amazon will be expanding to a second facility in Davenport, IA. The city's new fulfillment center will be north of its Robotics Fulfillment Center, and be 114,000 square-feet. Per the City of Davenport's website, a facility of this magnitude typically creates more than 100 direct/indirect job opportunities, including delivery service and Amazon Flex program positions.

Amazon's existing facility in Davenport currently has about 2,000 employees:

The City is happy to see Amazon grow its footprint in Davenport’s Eastern Iowa Industrial Center. We’re grateful Amazon chose to do business here, and we’re proud of the Davenport community for supporting this expansion - Davenport Mayor Mike Matson, per the City of Davenport's website

Amazon Economic Development Manager Jason Vangalis noted that Davenport is a city the company views as a "strategic Midwest location" due to its direct access to major highways, not to mention its existence in the bustling Quad Cities metropolitan.

The City of Davenport's new last-mile facility will be geared towards driving "the final stage of Amazon's fulfillment process." This is the process of getting the package to your doorstep.

Amazon's Robotics Fulfillment Center opened in Davenport back in October 2023. Housed in the facility are over 5,000 robots that move items throughout the building, which is an almost unfathomable 2.3 million square feet in size. That facility alone processes about 130,000 customer orders daily.
