On a balmy Thursday night in Dubuque, laughter and excitement filled the Five Flags Center as popular comedian Brian Regan took the stage. Regan has been performing standup for multiple decades, earning praise from the likes of Chris Rock, Norm Macdonald, David Letterman, and more.

Brian Regan's routine was preceded by Syracuse comedian Steven Rogers, who warmed up the audience with material revolving around owning cats and "cold weather people." Rogers performs all over the country, and is a regular at various clubs in New York City.

Rogers got the crowd laughing in time for Brian Regan to take Five Flags' stage at around 8pm. Regan is different amongst the greater landscape of comedians due to the fact that he refrains from using profanity or coarse language in his routines. His humor isn't taboo, but more in line with observational comedy, as he pokes fun at the mundane aspects of life.

Regan's comedy definitely connected with the dense crowd of Tri-Staters as the laughs flooded the arena for the entire time he was on-stage. Some of my favorite material was his quick-hit jokes, where he'd say a few sentences about one subject before segueing to the next. During his routine, he took a few humorous jabs at recording radio liners during radio phone interviews. A few beats later, he was remarking about the ubiquity of anti-war songs and wondered why there's no pro-war songs to balance the scale.

Since making his debut as a professional comedy, Regan has recorded a handful of albums, Netflix specials, and even made appearances in Chris Rock's movie Top Five, as well as Peter Farrelly's FX series Loudermilk, starring Ron Livingston. Even Jerry Seinfeld called him one of his "favorite, favorite" standup comics working today. Their observational styles are very similar.

Per usual, Five Flags Center's staff was courteous and helpful, and the venue was once again accommodating for a show of this caliber. Brian Regan's performance kicks off what is sure to be a busy spring and summer for the venue, with other acts such as Justin Moore, Dwight Yoakam, and more set to take the stage very soon.
