New Card, Gaming Shop Coming Very Soon to Dubuque’s Kennedy Mall

A brand new trading card and gaming shop is coming to Dubuque's bustling Kennedy Mall, which continues its ongoing streak of welcoming a great variety of new businesses into the area's premier shopping center.

This is simultaneously great news for me and bad news for my wallet. I started collecting sports cards a couple years ago, predominately football and basketball. For my card nerds, I love my Panini Prizms cards in particular. I enjoy Donruss and NBA Hoops as well. My favorite section of my collection is my "irrelevant quarterbacks" section, which includes everything from numbered Nathan Peterman cards to autographs of such heavy hitters as Tajh Boyd and Christian Hackenberg.

Enough about me. More about this super promising shop. The store is Coulee Cards & Gaming, which will occupy a 3,800-square-foot space adjacent to Spencer Gifts in the mall, per Telegraph Herald.

Store manager Liane Olson told Telegraph Herald that the store will house a wide variety of sports cards, including baseball, football, basketball, hockey, and wrestling. In addition, the store will sell Pokémon, Yu-Gi-Oh!, One Piece, and Magic: The Gathering cards as well as board games.

Coulee is a rapidly expanding trading card store franchise. The forthcoming Dubuque, IA location will be the seventh for the chain, which began in Onalaska, WI in 2020. That was a time when sports cards were exploding in popularity again. The stimulus checks sent out during the pandemic resulted in people having more money to spend, while the stock market volatility at the time made people desire to funnel money into something tangible (and fun).

Olson also told the Telegraph Herald that several customers at their Cedar Rapids store traveled all the way from Dubuque, prompting their team to consider opening a store to service the Tri-State area.

Coulee Cards & Gaming in Dubuque already has a Facebook page live, and a grand opening date set for Saturday, March 22nd from 10am - 9pm. Telegraph Herald notes that the store's hours will match other retailers at the mall.
