Documentary on Bellevue Woman’s Murder to Air on CBS
A murder that rocked the small town of Bellevue, IA will be the subject of a long-running, true-crime TV series that will air on CBS on Saturday, March 15th.
The story of Angela Prichard rocked the entirety of Jackson County in October 2022. The 55-year-old woman was killed at the hands of her estranged husband, Christopher Prichard. Christopher was convicted of first-degree murder in February 2024, and is presently serving a life sentence in prison. He has appealed his conviction, per Telegraph Herald.
Now, an episode of the popular show 48 Hours will air a special called "Could Angela Prichard Have Been Saved?" The show will feature never-before-seen body cam footage of police officers, 911 calls, and other footage related to Angela's murder.
On Saturday, October 8th, 2022, Angela arrived at her job at Mississippi Ridge Kennels in Bellevue to feed the dogs, like she did so many mornings. Waiting for her at work was Christopher with a loaded shotgun. Per CBS News' website, Angela called 911 and is heard on the call yelling "please get out" before yelling "Chris!" Following that is the sound of a gunshot.
Seconds before she died, she named her killer.
CBS News notes that over a month prior to her killing, Angela had been granted a restraining order against her husband. Christopher was repeatedly harassing, stalking, and threatening her. Angela moved in with her sister, who looks to be a significant part of the upcoming 48 Hours documentary, at least judging by the three-minute "sneak peek" available on YouTube.
The Prichard family is fighting for their late matriarch in a battle with the Bellevue Police Department that looks to also be a large part of the upcoming episode. A lawsuit filed by Angela's sons, Joshua Close and Colton Hancock, against the PD alleged that police failed to enforce a no-contact order in the weeks prior to their mom's killing. The lawsuit was dismissed by a federal judge. The brothers are set to appeal.
The 48 Hours episode "Could Angela Prichard Have Been Saved" is set to air on CBS on Saturday, March 15th at 9pm CST. It will then be available to stream on Paramount+.
