Wisconsin's Don Gorske Eats His 35,000th Big Mac

March 15th, 2025 was a monumental day in Fond Du Lac, WI. My good friend and world-record holder Don Gorske officially ate his 35,000th Big Mac before dozens of family, friends, and fans at the McDonald's located on South Military Road.

A bit of background: Don rose to prominence in the documentary Super Size Me. Don was the friendly, lanky fellow with perfectly round glasses and a long, flowing bowl cut. He proudly shared with documentarian Morgan Spurlock that he's eaten at least one McDonald's Big Mac almost every day since he first tried the sandwich in 1972. When I first wrote about Gorske a couple of years ago, he had eaten 32,944 Big Macs.

Don Gorske has been eating Big Macs regularly for over 52 years. While he used to eat as many as nine-a-day, now he's got his process down to a science. Every Monday, he goes to his local McDonald's and orders six, one for each day through Wednesday. Then, on Thursday, he returns and orders eight, which will get him through Sunday night. Outside of a before-bed snack like potato chips, Big Macs are the primary food in Don's diet.

Ever since I interviewed him back in the spring of 2024, Don and I have become friends, exchanging letters a few times a month. He even invited my girlfriend, Catherine, and I to his home, where he showed us thousands of what he calls his "McTreasures." Over his 50+ years of eating Big Macs, Don has collected an assortment of McDonald's-related memorabilia that will blow your mind. From Happy Meal toys to signage, toys, games, and he-only-knows what.

On Saturday, March 15th, dozens gathered to watch Don eat Big Mac #35,000. To my surprise, both Don and the McDonald's owner, Dave Rause, wanted me to read the proclamation ahead of Don eating the sandwich. The proclamation, from Mayor McCheese himself, declared March 15th "Don Gorske Day" and expressed gratitude and appreciation for the man behind this amazing culinary record.
