The Voice of the Hawkeyes Takes on the Voice of the Badgers in Golf Event

The Voice of the Iowa Hawkeyes will be going head-to-head with the Voice of the Wisconsin Badgers in an epic matchup for the Tri-States and all involved on Sunday, July 30th.

Make no mistake, however: it's all in the name of a friendly competition and benefiting a wonderful organization. "Golfin' with Dolphin and Play with Lepay," named after Gary Dolphin, the longtime radio play-by-play broadcaster for Hawkeyes football and men's basketball, will take place this Sunday at Lacoma Golf Club in East Dubuque. The event begins at 10am, with proceedings going to United Way of the Tri-States.

Dolphin will be squaring off against Matt Lepay, the radio voice of the Wisconsin Badgers football and men's basketball team. The event is set to start at 10am at Lacoma, where a couple dozen teams will play 18 holes of golf. Following the event, an after-party is scheduled at Gary Dolphin's Iron Bar, where people will enjoy complimentary food as well as the award and prize ceremony.

Gary Dolphin was kind enough to call into the studio to talk about the event. He wanted to be sure people know all that United Way does for the Tri-States and eastern Iowa as a whole:

It's a great organization [....] we cross the river to southwest Wisconsin and northwest Illinois, and cover counties over there and seven or eight counties in the immediate Dubuque area, encompassing some 50 to 100,000 clients served by some 25 to 30 organizations. United Way as most people know historically has partnered up with everybody from the Boys and Girls Club to Crescent Clinic to the hospitals here in town providing a myriad of services. They're focusing on mental health, the kids in schools, making sure  that the nutrition is there that the kids need [....] we work with the schools and it's a great organization like many wonderful charitable and civic endeavors, they're always looking for additional funds to support their programs so we're only happy to help.

Dolphin stays active with charity events, his popular Dubuque bar and restaurant, and of course, is gearing up for another season of Iowa Hawkeyes football and basketball. Per usual, you'll be able to hear his play-by-play commentary for both those sports on Q 107.5 FM when the respective seasons start.
