Hy-Vee made two significant acquisitions in a sizable Wisconsin town, suggesting an expansion is on the horizon for the grocer with a ubiquitous presence throughout the Midwest.

Last week, Hy-Vee released a press release announcing two big acquisitions that will be used for a future grocery store and gas station location. Beyond just grocery stores, Hy-Vee has become even bigger by expanding into the fuel scene, which includes their brands "Hy-Vee Gas" and "Hy-Vee Fast & Fresh," the latter of which prioritizing hot, ready-to-eat meals.

Hy-Vee Acquires a Store and Gas Station in Wisconsin:

Hy-Vee announced last week they've acquired the County Market store in Wausau, WI, located at 220 S. 18th Avenue, as well as the adjacent Circle K convenience store. The County Market location in Wausau is salted to close at 6pm on Tuesday, November 11th, and reopen on November 18th as an all-new Hy-Vee for the community.

Meanwhile, the Circle K convenience store will be rebranded as a Hy-Vee Fast & Fresh location. Kory Robinson, Regional Vice President for Hy-Vee Madison, commented on the palpable excitement permeating through Hy-Vee regarding these acquisitions:

We’re excited to have this opportunity to be part of the Wausau community. We look forward to bringing Hy-Vee’s quality, convenience and culinary expertise to customers next month, and to being part of the local community - Regional Vice President for Hy-Vee Madison Kory Robinson, per a press release from Hy-Vee

Details on County Market's Closing:

The County Market in Wausau has been a go-to grocer for the community for decades, boasting all your vegetables, dairy, and pharmaceutical needs. Despite it closing in roughly a month's time, Hy-Vee stated that all 130 full-time and part-time employees at County Market will be offered positions at Hy-Vee. If accepted, the positions will provide:

  • Employee benefits, including a weekly 10% employee discount on groceries
  • Holiday pay
  • Free Hy-Vee PERKS Plus premium membership
  • Tuition assistance program for employees and family members
  • Employer-sponsored insurance for full- and part-time employees

Details About the Circle K Acquisition:

Hy-Vee acquired the Wausau Circle K convenience store from Laval, which operates in 29 countries and territories, totally over 17,000 stores, with approximately 13,200 offering fuel. Per Supermarket News, no further information regarding Hy-Vee's acquisition of the Wausau Circle K has been revealed.
