Hy-Vee Will No Longer Be Stocking This Popular Iowa Product

A popular Iowa brand will no longer have its place on the shelves of Hy-Vee stores in Iowa or any of the stores in the surrounding states.

The news comes as a blow to those who love not only supporting a more than 150-year-old company in the Hawkeye State, but those who have grown to love their many offerings, which provide that much more flavor and profile to their foods.

This week, Hy-Vee announced that they would be parting ways with Tone's Spices, whose manufacturing headquarters are located in Ankeny. The company is known for a wide variety of spices; everything from garlic pepper to Cajun seasoning to chopped onions, chives, bay leaves, and more.

Hy-Vee provided a statement to KCCI about the surprising decision, which is tethered to creating more shelf-space for a competitor:

Companywide, we are adding more McCormick spices to our offerings to make sure we can meet customer demand and ensure we have supply for the holidays. We are still purchasing more than 200 products produced by B&G Foods, Inc., which is the company that owns Tone's. However, in order to meet spice demand at stores throughout our region, we are working primarily with McCormick when it comes to our spice offerings. - Hy-Vee's statement, per KCCI

B&G Foods, the owners of the Tone's Spices brand, released a statement informing consumers that while mini bottles of their spices are sold at Price Chopper in Des Moines, select Fareway stores will continue stocking their beloved products.

They also stated that have consumers are having difficultly finding their products, they recommend asking store managers to carry their many spices.
