Who are Iowans Betting on to Win the Super Bowl?
The NFL playoffs are heating up as the divisional round is set to begin this weekend. My Chicago Bears took care of business last weekend and won their first playoff game in 15 years after beating the Green Bay Packers in a loud, raucous Soldier Field. I was elated. Everything else is gravy in my mind now, but I still want to see the Bears continue this magical season and beat the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday.
All that being said, BetMGM released some intriguing data regarding the betting habits of residents in 24 states (where spots betting is legal). BetMGM compiled data on who the overwhelming majority in several states are picking to win the Super Bowl next month in Levi's Stadium.

One Team is Overwhelmingly Getting All the Coin:
It's a strange year in the NFL. Decorated, future Hall of Fame quarterbacks Patrick Mahomes and Lamar Jackson and their respective teams (the Kansas City Chiefs and Baltimore Ravens) are absent from the playoffs for the first time in a blue moon. Every team in the playoffs has a question mark, be it a leaky defense, inexperience, unproven signal callers, green head coaches, etc.
So, it makes a lot of sense that 20 of the 24 teams BetMGM examined have money on the Buffalo Bills winning it all come February. Of all the teams in the playoffs, the Bills have the most extensive history, right there with the Rams. Other teams like the Broncos, Bears, and Patriots have gone an extended period of time without sniffing the playoffs.

Naturally, residents in Colorado, Illinois, and Massachusetts are all backing their hometown teams, but those present the only outlier from the other states. Everyone from Kansas to Ohio, Pennsylvania to North Carolina, and even the gambling powerhouse of Nevada are putting their money on the Bills.
The NFL is king in America because it gives people hope like no other sport. In the NBA and MLB, teams languish in mediocrity and irrelevance for years trying to field a competitive team. In the NFL, you can be one of the worst teams of the league one year, but if you find the right coach and quarterback, and make proactive roster decisions, you can make the playoffs and even win a playoff game the following year.
