A popular discount store is going through some hard times.

According to a recent report, Dollar Tree's fourth quarter reports for the 2023 fiscal year, were a bit of a mixed bag.

The major company that owns both Dollar Tree and Family Dollar shared news of finishing off the year trending positively.

This corporation opened 219 locations in their fourth quarter, according to reports.

"I am proud of what our team accomplished in 2023 and see a long runway of growth ahead of us. As we look forward in 2024, we are accelerating our multi-price rollout at Dollar Tree and taking decisive action to improve profitability and unlock value at Family Dollar,” said Rick Dreiling, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer.

However, another takeaway from this public announcement is that the company would be closing a large number of stores all throughout the country.

Dollar Tree, Family Dollar to Shutter Hundreds of Stores

The official number as of right now from this report is set in stone.

According to the official report, 600 Family Dollar stores will be closed in the first half of the 2024 fiscal year. There are set to be an additional 370 approximate store closures over the next few years.

It looks like about a thousand of these stores are closing THIS YEAR alone.

Just How Many Dollar Trees/Family Dollars Are in Iowa?

According to reports, these stores are located all across the Hawkeye State.

Family Dollar stores can be found in 48 Iowa cities. There are two locations in Cedar Rapids, one in Evansdale, four locations in Waterloo, and five in Des Moines.

Now on to Dollar Tree...

Dollar Tree has a bit of a stronger foothold in the Hawkeye State that Family Dollar. There are 61 cities in Iowa with these discount stores.

According to the official Dollar Tree website, there are two locations in Cedar Falls, five locations in Cedar Rapids, six in Des Moines, and three in Waterloo.
