Loras College’s DuTHON is All About Raising Money and Having Fun

A Dubuque college has cracked the code for both raising money for a phenomenal cause and having fun while doing it. Their annual event is happening in late-March, and this is a great way to get connected with a powerful collegiate fundraising effort and support a tremendous Iowa hospital.

Since its inception, Loras College's DuTHON has raised significant funds for the University of Iowa Health Care Stead Family Children's Hospital. On Friday, March 28th, 2025, Loras DuTHON will be hosting their annual Dance Marathon event at Loras' Alumni Campus Center.

At the event, a number of families whose children have received treatment at the children's hospital gather, along with an upwards of 60 Loras students, to spend an evening playing games, doing crafts and other activities, sharing family stories, and of course, dancing!

For years, Loras College has made it one of its missions to help raise money for the Iowa Stead Family Children's Hospital, with all of the money raised going directly to the hospital to help families, their children, and hospital staff with a barrage of different needs:

In December 2024, Y105 hosted a radiothon to raise money for the University of Iowa Health Care Stead Family Children's Hospital. The event was an overwhelming success, raising over $29,000 that went directly to the hospital.

Let it be known that the folks from Loras College, particularly Loras DuTHON/Loras Dance Marathon, helped make the event the success it was. These folks are miracle-workers in themselves. Credit is due to Maddy Stephan, who so graciously helped schedule numerous families leading up to and during the Radiothon itself. Tyler Adams was my right-hand man throughout the day, helping me on air and serving as my de facto assistant for the day.

That money raised at our radiothon, and for Loras' upcoming Dance Marathon, will be used to buy gift cards for families to use for meals outside the Iowa Stead Family Children's Hospital. It will be used to buy books for the vast library inside the children's hospital, as well as video games for children to play. Larger sums might be put towards research, life-saving equipment, and other programs to assure the hospital continues to provide the exceptional care for which it's known.
