Marvel comics has been giving hip-hop a huge look within their franchises with the hugely popular Black Panther comic book series and now with the upcoming Luke Cage drama on Netflix. Last Sunday (July 24), at San Diego Comic Con, series executive producer Cheo Hodari Coker revealed that every episode from Luke Cage will be named after a Gang Starr song.

This is a huge treat for fan boys and girls who love both the comic book world and hip-hop. There’s no word on what song titles they will use for Luke Cage's first season. We nominate "Just to Get a Rep," "Mass Appeal" and "The Militia" just to name a few. Somewhere in heaven, the late rapper Guru is looking down and smiling.

This great news follows Marvel's recent announcement that a 15-year-old black girl named Riri Williams will don the red-and-yellow iron suit in the new comic-book installment of Iron Man starting in the fall. Props to Marvel for bringing diversity into their world of superheroes.

As for now, we can enjoy the Luke Cage trailer, which features some music from Ol’ Dirty Bastard’s song, “Shimmy Shimmy Ya."

Marvel's Luke Cage series will premiere via Netflix on Sept. 30.
