If you build a new one, they might come. Maybe. Time will tell.

In 2021, NBCUniversal announced that there would be a Field of Dreams TV series commissioned for NBC's streaming service Peacock. News about the project has since been scarce, but finally, some more information was revealed today.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the upcoming limited series will not use the field that Major League Baseball recreated last year. It also won't be filmed in Dyersville. Instead, a new stadium will be built with the help of Renovo Media Group, located in Clear Lake, Musco Lighting, and Iowa Sports Turf.

Filming is set to take place throughout Iowa, including Polk, Mahaska, Clinton, and Boone counties, as well as Boston, Minneapolis, and Los Angeles. So, while the series will be shot in Iowa, the MLB's second Field of Dreams game conflicts with the production schedule.

At the helm of the series is Michael Schur, a longtime producer who has directed several episodes of various shows, including Parks and RecreationBrooklyn Nine-NineThe Good Place, and Single Parents. He also served as a writer on episodes of Black Mirror and Rutherford Falls, another Peacock show starring Ed Helms.

I've only been in Dubuque a short time, but it's not hard to see how ingrained Field of Dreams is with this county and community. The beloved 1989 film was filmed in Dyersville, roughly 30 minutes west of Dubuque. It's a bummer that the location will be absent from this series.

Plot details and casting information about the series have not yet been released. Both Schur and other executive producers have revealed, however, that they have the cooperation of Produce Iowa and many local businesses, which they hope will see a boon during production and once the series hits the streaming service.

In addition to another game taking place at the Field of Dreams site (the Chicago Cubs vs. the Cincinnati Reds on August 11th), a major development is set to take place at the Dyersville movie site. Plans for multiple baseball diamonds, a hotel, a sports complex, and multiple other additions are in the works. It should be completed by 2025.
