Chicago sports has been in an awful way for a while. That's part of what makes the 2025 Chicago Cubs feel that much more special.

Consider the landscape at the moment. The Bears might be good; Caleb Williams could be the team's elusive franchise quarterback, but it's too early to tell. The Bulls are mired in mediocrity, and the worst part is they're content with it. The Blackhawks have a way's to go as Connor Bedard finds his footing in the NHL, and the White Sox will be one of the worst teams in baseball for years to come.

As of this writing, the Cubs are 62-43, one of the best teams in all of baseball, and had two players in Pete Crow-Armstrong and Kyle Tucker make the All-Star Team. At this moment in time, Pete Crow-Armstrong, nicknamed "PCA," is probably the best athlete in all of Chicago. He's a dynamic playmaker and a fearless personality. He's one of the reasons the Cubs have such an incredible offense this season.

Here's something I didn't know until today: PCA is the son of two actors in Matthew John Armstrong and Ashley Crow. In a stranger than fiction turn of events, PCA's mom, Ashley, was actually one of the stars in a 90s baseball movie that has since gone on to have a favorable reputation amongst fans of the game.

Ashley Crow was one of the stars of the 1994 movie Little Big League. The film revolves around a 12-year-old boy (Luke Edwards) whose grandfather, owner of the Minnesota Twins, passes away. Before he died, however, grandpa willed the Twins to his grandson, who becomes the youngest owner in MLB history. Ashley Crow plays the boy's mother.

I remember watching Little Big League at summer camp. It's not great cinema, even for baseball movie standards, but it's a fun little piece of wish fulfillment, as it's hard to watch that movie when you're, say, 10 and under and not picture yourself as the boy who gets to run a baseball team.

Ashley Crow's other credits include films like Minority Report and TV shows like Heroes, where she played Sandra Bennet in a recurring role. Now, she cheers on her son as he becomes one of the most dominant players in his sport. Prior to the All Star break, PCA had 25 home runs, 27 stolen bases, four triples, 21 doubles, 67 runs on 99 hits, and 71 RBIs to his name.
