With the summer season set to take shape, one local theater company has a bevy of opportunities for kids of all ages who are looking to flex their creative muscles and get involved with productions.

The Rising Star Theatre Company is gearing up for a busy summer season filled with theater camps and multiple different productions. The company's Artistic and Education Director Megan Schumacher stopped in studio to talk about all the happenings at Rising Star, including their upcoming youth production of Peter Pan, with auditions set to take place very soon!

Schumacher detailed the sheer variety of Rising Star's summer theater camps, which are available for students kindergarten to 12th grade:

We actually have five summer camps that are happening [....] we've got a heroes and villains musical camp for second through fifth graders, zombie attacks for some of the older kids [who will do] zombie makeup [and] a whole set and play [....] 'Under the Big Top' is K through second grade [too].

Those are just some of the camps Rising Star Theatre Company is offering. For further details on their summer camps, you can visit the "Education" tab on their website!

Schumacher also touched on the theater's upcoming youth production of Peter Pan, set to take place August 9th - 13th at the Grand Opera House in Dubuque:

It's for ages eight through 18 [....] we've done this annual youth production for a number of years [....] we usually have two casts of close-to-100 kids in these performances [....] the auditions are coming up June 3rd and 4th if you want to audition. Every kid that auditions will be cast as long as they meet the age requirements, so that's kind of unique. So, if you've got a nervous one who is like, 'I don't know if I'll get in,' [don't worry], they'll get in.

For Peter Pan, there will be some flying too. Rising Star contacted a company called ZFX Flying to help safely rig up the kids so they can take flight in the production as well. You can find out more about Rising Star's production of Peter Pan on their website!

Finally, Schumacher touched on the theater's quickly approaching production of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, which will run from June 9th - 18th at the Grand Opera House. You can find out more about that as well as Rising Star Theatre Company's summer theater camps and Peter Pan in my interview with Megan Schumacher below!
