Iowa Company Selling Fake Ozempic Ordered to Pay Over $100,000
Weight-loss drugs are all the rage these days. Ozempic, with its rip-off "It's Magic" jingle, is so ubiquitous that South Park even parodied it on one of their specials. It's everywhere, and of course when something is making unfathomably money, be it handbags, LaBubus, or weight-loss drugs, there will be fakes.
This week, a Washington, IA pharmacy was forced to pay over $100,000 to settle a lawsuit that accused them of selling counterfeit Ozempic medication.

The pharmacy SmartScripts was ordered to pay over $132,000 to settle a lawsuit that was filed in 2023. Per KCCI, the Washington, IA company owes the lump sum to Central Pharmacy Management, which is based in Lansing, MI.
SmartScripts shipped 15 cases of medication to Central Pharmacy Management in December 2023. The company claims SmartScripts wasn't aware it had purchased counterfeit Ozempic until several days after it shipped the medication.
After coughing up $25,000 on October 21st, SmartScripts now owes over $107,000, with interest. Its pharmaceutical license was also placed on probation for five years.
Per the Iowa Capital Dispatch back in August, Central Pharmacy Management's order from SmartScripts was for 1,260 Ozempic "pens" with four milligrams of the drug. Instead, the company received 15 cases as opposed to one. SmartScripts allegedly became aware the Ozempic they had purchased was counterfeit, but failed to report the matter for several months, long after the cases were shipped and received in Lansing.
