Steve-O Reveals His Favorite Thing About Iowa, Talks Upcoming Dubuque Show
In June 2022, immensely popular stunt performer and TV personality Steve-O brought his "Bucket List Tour" to Dubuque. At the Five Flags Theater, he treated a sold-out crowd of fans to gnarly videos of stunts and peppered the show with stand-up material and other stories. The result had to be the filthiest show ever performed at Five Flags. And one of the funniest too!
The show was such a success that the great folks at Five Flags Center elected to bring Steve-O back for another show this year! The Jackass alum will be back in Dubuque on August 14th for an adults only multimedia show. Tickets are on sale now!
Ahead of his sophomore performance at Five Flags, I had the privilege of chatting with Steve-O. I grew up watching Jackass at way too young of an age. I remember watching the first movie when I was about six-years-old. I truly don't remember a time when Jackass wasn't part of my life, so this was a gold-plated opportunity, not to mention a privilege, I couldn't pass up!
Moreover, I was interested in asking Steve-O about his present-day career. He is the host of the eminently popular podcast Wild Ride on YouTube, where he interviews celebrities from his RV in which he takes all around the country. He's debatably become as well known for his podcast and stand-up shows as his work on Jackass.
His thoughts on the rush he gets from doing stunts compared to the rush he gets when speaking to an audience was intriguing:
It's a fun question. I consider myself an attention whore at all stages of the game [....] Whenever something is working, man, like after I get some kind of footage [or] I film something that's epic, or I got a crowd that's responding [....] whenever something I'm doing is working that's when I'm my happiest. - Steve-O, per our interview
Steve-O is a graduate of Ringling Bros. & Barnum Bailey Clown College, and touched on his time learning his craft in school. Beyond that, Steve-O also has some affection for the state of Iowa. One of his favorite things in Iowa is a popular gas station (and it's not Casey's)!
One other pleasant surprise of this interview was Steve-O, now 50-years-old, address the fact that he is slowly coming to grips with the fact that he will have to retire from performing stunts sooner rather than later. His current tour might be the last of his kind, for his body is getting older and is not tolerating (or healing) from the abuse like it should. Him addressing aging and trying to find peace with what he's achieved was one of the most fascinating points in our discussion.
Take a listen to my interview with the one-and-only Steve-O below! Learn more about his upcoming show at the Five Flags Center on August 14th and get tickets on Five Flags' website!
