I promise I did not source this story from The Onion. This indeed legitimately happened.

In mid-June, a stray hen was rescued in front of a Buffalo Wild Wings restaurant in Iowa. The rescue was confirmed by the Animal Rescue League of Iowa in a Facebook post that needs to be seen to be believed.

According to the Facebook post, Animal Rescue League service officers were notified of the hen via calls to their office. They swung by the Buffalo Wild Wings restaurant, located at 3311 S.E. 14th Street in Des Moines and successfully rescued it:

The Animal Rescue League noted that while the hen is safe and currently in proper care, she is not presently up for adoption:

She’s now safe and receiving the care she needs.

Interested in adding to your flock? While this hen isn’t currently available for adoption, we have many others who are. Check the comments for how to adopt! - per the Animal Rescue of Iowa's Facebook page

Animal Rescue League has a handful of locations in Iowa, including in Des Moines, Ankeny, Altoona, and Marshalltown, per The Des Moines Register. They are Iowa's largest nonprofit animal shelter.

The prospect of a stray hen needing to be rescued is rare. The fact that, of all places, it happened in front of a Buffalo Wild Wings is the kind of irony Geoffrey Chaucer probably wish he could've conjured up.
