A legendary horror host from Chicago is once again going big for Halloween. Now that his show airs nationally, people all around the country, including in Iowa and Wisconsin, can enjoy the month-long programming block featuring spooky cartoons, sitcoms, westerns, and several different movies!

For those unaware, Svengoolie is a late-night program. It now airs nationally at 7 pm CST Saturday nights on MeTV. Hosted by Rich Koz (playing "Svengoolie," a caricature in skull-like makeup donning a moustache, goatee, wig, and black top-hat), the program features a low-budget horror film.

While the movie is played in its entirety, sound effects are incorporated into the film to provide a "riffing" sort of experience. Svengoolie pops up before and after commercial breaks to crack deliberately corny jokes, contextualize scenes, or perform parody songs.

The Return of Svengoolie's "Halloween BOONanza:"

Like I did last year, I was fortunate enough to get to chat with Rich Koz himself. Koz has been an affable presence on Chicago, and more recently national, airwaves for decades. Throughout the month of October, Koz will be hosting Svengoolie's Halloween BOONanza, which features back-to-back horror movies presented by Sven himself along with a litany of spooky episodes from classic TV series.

I've been a Svengoolie fan since I was a child. When I met him in Berwyn, IL circa 2009, I actually got my picture in the Chicago Tribune (see below). Chatting with Koz himself is always a real treat because he's as amiable and affable as he is on the show.

Sven is Featuring an All-Star Lineup of Horror Movies and Shows:

As he's done in years past, Svengoolie will opt to show double-features on Saturday evenings, with Son of Frankenstein (1939), The Monster That Challenged the World (1957), House of Wax (1953), and the much-requested David Bowie/Jennifer Connolly film Labyrinth (1986) being a part of the mix!

In addition, MeTV and the newly launched MeTV Toons will be airing various sitcoms and cartoons, respectively, that have horror elements/themes. Parents shouldn't fear, however. This is all quality family entertainment from yesteryear!

Rudy is joined by movie props and costumes expert Mark Short, who will shock him with the estimated value of his entire collection.
