Theo Von Gives a Shout-Out to Sundown Mountain Resort on Podcast

Theo Von has been one of the fastest-rising names in comedy for the last couple of years. Joe Rogan has been the host of one of the most popular podcasts in the entire world for the entire decade. Put the two of them together on one show for a long, nearly three hour conversation and you have the recipe for great entertainment.

Theo Von's appearance on The Joe Rogan Experience took an unexpectedly local turn for those in Dubuque and the Tri-States. At one point, Theo Von — a Louisiana native — spoke briefly about a childhood vacation to Iowa. For context, his mother has roots in Wyoming, IL (roughly two-and-a-half hours away from Dubuque), so it's truly not out of the realm of possibility that Von and his family would've made their way to the Hawkeye State.

During his chat with Rogan, Von recalls a winter vacation to Iowa where him and his family went skiing. Von recalls skiing at some place called "Sundown," which should've made the ears on almost every eastern Iowa perk up. Of course, Von is remembering Sundown Mountain Resort in Asbury, IA:

We used to go skiing or whatever like in Iowa or somewhere [....] I think it was Iowa in the winter and they have a place called Sundown, I think it was. It was f***ing freezing! - Theo Von on The Joe Rogan Experience Podcast

Of all things for Von and Rogan to discuss on their podcast, who could've predicted such a famous Dubuque staple would be casually referenced?

Mark Gordon and his great team at Sundown Mountain clearly caught wind of the reference, for they put the clip on their TikTok channel. The clip was also shared to the Voices of the Tri-States Facebook group, where it continued to see great traction.

In the grand scheme of the podcast, such a fluttering reference to an Iowa ski resort isn't a huge deal. However, Gordon and his team have worked hard to make Sundown Mountain Resort a premier destination for skiers, and to see it mentioned by a huge name in comedy on a nationally significant podcast is nothing short of awesome Midwestern representation.
