Dubuque Police responded to 65 Burns Street Dubuque for a report of shots fired just before 9pm Monday March 1st.. The resident of 65 Burns Street, 35 year old Shelby M. Strong, reported acquaintances of her children shot at the residence. Strong identified the three individuals as 18 year old Charles D. Tyler, no permanent address, 17 year old juvenile A.J.C, of Dubuque, and 16 year old juvenile B.D.M., of Dubuque. A.J.C was identified as the subject who fired the gun.

City of Dubuque traffic cameras were reviewed, and the suspect vehicle was identified as a red 2015 Nissan Altima. The vehicle was tracked to the Liquor Tobacco and Gas at 1401 Central Avenue where a traffic stop was initiated. The two juveniles fled on foot, however were taken into custody a short distance away from the traffic stop.

Officer Dylan Doerges sustained injuries to his knees, elbow, and hand while taking B.D.M. into custody.

A search of the vehicle, pursuant to a search warrant yielded a 9 mm handgun.

A.J.C was charged as a juvenile with Going Armed with Intent, and Interference with Official Acts.

B.D.M was charged as a juvenile with Aiding and Abetting Going Armed with Intent and Interference with Official Acts Causing Injury.

Tyler is charged with Aiding and Abetting Going Armed with Intent, a class “D” felony punishable by up to 5 years in prison.

A.J.C and B.D.M were transported to juvenile detention. Tyler remains in the Dubuque County jail.

The investigation remains ongoing. Additional charges are possible.
